Notes:

A Texas Bluebird Society Nestbox has been added to the test.

Results:

Texas Society Bluebird Nestbox performed as well as the Seaford Light Tan Nestbox. The Texas Box performed better than the Seaford New Unpainted Box and the Seaford Weathered Box. The Texas Box performed worse than the Seaford Light Tan Box with light tan heat shields.

Conclusion:

The superior ventilation of the Texas Box compensated for it's darker color.

Recommendation:

Use a light colored paint and/or heat shields to protect your nest boxes. Also make sure your boxes have adequate top cross ventilation. The best cooling is obtained using a combination of light color, good ventilation and light colored heat shields.
